Tucked away in the mountains of Malibu, overlooking the gorgeous Pacific Ocean, sits a rehabilitation center that boasts of being the safe passage to find the other side of pain, guilt, and remorse where healing occurs. Visitors typically arrive at the lowest point in their lives when they have exhausted all other options and are faced with the reality that they have become powerless to a substance. By the time they come to Passages, they have suffered a lot of pain, destroyed relationships and wreaked havoc on their personal and professional goals.
However, when they drive onto the grounds, they will immediately sense that they are being transported to a tranquil paradise. Almost an immediate sense of relief is felt as a result of the cool ocean breeze, the scent of salt water and the serene campus. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and the mountain and ocean views are breathtaking. When you walk up to the front, you are greeted by the coy fish on either side of the pathway leading up to the door. Upon entering the grand entrance, you are greeted by a warm and friendly face that feels familiar. This place is magical, for an addict who has hit rock bottom it is the happiest place on earth.
The home is filled with relics of serenity, artwork, musical instruments and comfortable furniture. And it smells like delicious food every time I visit. When clients check in they usually look and feel like zombies. When I sit in the lobby, I can tell which clients are newly checked in because they walk slowly as if they are in pain from having run a marathon the day before. The substance abuse has deteriorated their bodies and their minds and spirits have pretty much vanished as well.
After a few days of treatment, you can see the light coming on in each person’s life. They start to feel better and start to reconnect with their emotions again. They become stronger each day and work through the pain and suffering that caused the addictions. And then finally, a beautiful thing occurs. You see the client begin to dream again. A renewed hope becomes a commonplace reality in their day to day existence and a new life is created. The passage towards freedom is a beautiful thing to watch. If you are struggling with addiction or have a loved one who has deteriorated to the point of no return, it is time to make the passage towards a better life. And we have a team waiting for you… all you need to do is pick up the phone.
